Antsiranana:
Antsiranana
is the northernmost city of Madagascar and the administrative
Capital of Antsiranana Province. The city was formerly known
as Diego Suarez
and its name Antsiranana means port.
The town has a magnificent
natural harbor that resulted in interest by the French and
Portuguese prior to Madagascar’s colonization. At present, it is one
of the key ports of the country and a naval base.
A culturally
diverse city, Antsiranana has a population of close to 100,000
people. The town is home to a number of thriving industries
such as; food processing, ship building and repairs and fishing.
Air
Madagascar conducts regular flights from the Ivato International
Airport in Antananarivo to Antsiranana.
Ankarana National Park: the feature attraction within reach
from the town; the park encompasses a small mountain which features
interesting limestone formations. The park has a number of caves
that can be explored on foot and wildlife here includes; lemurs,
crocodile, gecko and bats.
