Sports in Burkina Faso:
Football
is the most popular sport in Burkina Faso. The game is widely
played around the country and there are a number of Burkinabe
footballers
playing in professional leagues in Europe. The national team
known as “the stallions” competes regularly in
international competition.
The team has featured six times
at the Africa Nations
Cup with its best performance to date being a fourth place
finish at the 1998 tournament. This is the same year that Burkina
Faso
hosted the tournament.
The team also participates at qualifying matches for the FIFA
World Cup. It is however yet to represent the continent at this
event.
