Cameroon People:
Cameroon
was one of the first regions to be settled in the West African
region. It is believed that the Baka, a pygmy people were the
first to arrive here from as early as the 1st century A.D.
The first
foreigners to arrive in the country were Portuguese merchants
in 1472.
The area was eventually annexed as a German Colony
by 1884
and following Germany’s defeat at the 1st World War, fell
under League of Nations Mandate. Its administration was then
shared by the British and the French.
Presently, the main ethnic groups residing in the country are;
Equatorial Bantu, Kirdi, Fulani, Northwestern Bantu, Eastern
Nigritic and Cameroon Highlanders.
