Comoros Economy:
Agriculture
accounts for a large part of the Comorian Economy, and directly
or indirectly accounts for about 80% of the Country’s workforce.
Agriculture in the Comoros produces; coconuts, banana, cassava,
copra, cloves, vanilla and perfume essences. Fishing and forestry
are also important activities.
The Country has returned to relative
stability with a new government elected in 2003. Important
industries in the country are tourism and perfume distillation
and the country
exports vanilla, cloves, perfume essence and copra mainly to
European markets.
Currency:
The Comorian Franc (KMF) was adopted as the Country’s
currency in 1981 and was then strongly tied to the French Franc.
The currency’s issue is regulated by the Comoros Central
Bank.
