The services sector employs a large percentage of the local population. Agriculture is a key economic activity though drought and unreliable rainfall continue to pose serious problems.

Many Djiboutians outside of the Capital are nomadic pastoralists herding cattle, sheep and goats. Agricultural produce found here includes; vegetables and fruits. Fishing off the country’s coast is also widely practiced.

Industries: an infant industrial sector, the main industries in Djibouti are; construction, food processing and salt extraction from Lake Asal.

Currency:

The Djiboutian Franc (DJF) is the official currency of Djibouti. The currency is closely tied to the French Franc from which it was adopted. French and Arabic are used on banknotes and coins.
