The Pyramids of Egypt:
The
pyramids are the most easily identifiable icons of Egypt. These
man-made structures were built in ancient Egyptian times as tombs
for the pharaohs; who were buried here with some of their wealth
and sometimes; their servants. Today the pyramids are one of the
main tourist attractions in the country.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest of the Egyptian pyramids
and is among the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Giza
area is one of the most visited sites in Egypt and also consists
of a number of small pyramids.
These can easily be reached by road and are situated in the
outskirts of Cairo. Guided tours to the pyramids are available
and can be organized from Cairo.
