Gaborone
is the capital city of Botswana and the largest city in the country.
The city is situated in the southeast of the country near its border
with South Africa. Gaborone has a short history only being established
in the late 1950s as an administrative center.
A city still largely
under construction, it became the capital of an independent
Botswana in 1966. Gaborone has an estimated population of about
0.2 million
people and is one of the smallest capitals in Africa.
The city is a major transport hub linked to other parts of the
country by road and rail. The Sir Seretse Khama International
Airport which is the main airport in Botswana is situated at
the city’s outskirts.
