Ghana Currency:
The
Ghanaian Cedi (GHC) is the title of the country’s currency.
The currency was introduced in 1965 to replace the pound that
had been in use since the colonial era.
One cedi is equivalent
to 100
pesewa. Current denominations in use are; 10, 20, 50, 100,
200 and 500 cedi coins as well as 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000 and
20000
cedis. The currency is to undergo revaluation in 2007 which
is being done re-denominate the current high valued banknotes
and
bring back pesewa in circulation.
Foreign exchange: a number of banks and foreign exchange bureaus
can be found in major towns and cities such as Accra and Kumasi,
and most major currencies can be exchanged.
