Ghana Economy:
Ghana
is a resource rich nation and the country has close to twice the
per capita output of the poorer West African Nations. The country
is one of the largest exporters of Gold on the Continent. Other
minerals found here are; bauxite, aluminum, manganese ore and diamonds.
The country also benefits significantly from revenue in the production
and export of cocoa and timber.
Major industries in Ghana are mining,
small commercial ship building, cement, food processing, aluminum
smelting, light manufacturing and lumbering. Agriculture is
also widely practiced and produces; cocoa, rice, coffee, cassava,
peanuts,
corn, shea nuts, bananas and timber.
Currency:
The Ghanaian Cedi (GHC) is the title of the country’s
currency. The currency was introduced in 1965 to replace the
pound that had been in use since the colonial era.
