Gonder:

Gonder is an historic Ethiopian City situated to the north of the country in the Amhara administrative region. The City was established in the early 16th Century by Emperor Fasileados and grew in prominence to become the capital of the Ethiopian Empire.

Much of Gonder’s history is still visible in its medieval castles and historic ruins which are the main tourist attraction for visitors here. Interesting places to visit include; the Fasilides Castle, the Fasilides Bath, the Ras Beit Palace built in the 18th Century and the Kusquam Ruins.

Gonder is reachable by road from Addis Ababa, and Ethiopian Airlines also conducts regular flights from the Bole International Airport in Addis to Gonder.
