Cote d'Ivoire Sports:

Cote d’Ivoire has for decades been a football powerhouse on the African continent. Known as “the elephants”, the team achieved its highest FIFA world ranking (18) in 2006.

The elephants have appeared 18 times at the Africa Nations cup and won the tournament in 1992, beating Ghana in a penalty shootout at the finals in Senegal. The country made its first appearance at the world cup in 2006 where it was placed in “the group of death” alongside Argentina, Netherlands and Serbia Montenegro. The team put on a strong show against much fancied opponents but failed to make it to the second round of the tournament.

Famous present day players include; Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Salomon Kalou (Chelsea), Didier Zokora (Tottenham), Kolo Toure (Arsenal), Emmanuel Eboue (Arsenal).
