Kayes:

Kayes is another of Mali’s larger cities, situated northwest of Bamako. The city is the administrative capital of the Kayes region and presently has an estimated population of about 91,000 people. The city was once the capital of the French-Sudan colony, a status it lost to Bamako in 1899.

There are a number of interesting places to visit in Kayes such as; Felou Falls, Lake Magui, Koniakari Tata and Fort du Medine.

Kayes is linked to Bamako by road and rail. The city is also served by an airport.
