Libya Currency:

The Libyan Dinar (LYD) is the title of the Libyan currency. The currency was introduced in 1971 to replace the Libyan Pound which had been in use since independence in 1951. The currency was in 2005 on average exchanging at a rate of 1.3084 per US$.

One dinar is equivalent to 1000 dirhams. Coins commonly in use are 1, 5, 10, 20 , 50 ,100 dirhams and ¼ and ½ dinars. Banknotes in use are for ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinars.

The currency is readily exchanged against major currencies by a number of banks and foreign exchange bureaus in Tripoli, Benghazi and other major towns.
