Tourism in Libya:

Tourism is an industry still in its infant stages in the country. With the lifting of economic sanction, Libya has seen an increase in the number of visitors in recent years mainly to the cities of Benghazi and Tripoli. Libya’s historic significance is the key tourism attraction. The country is the location for some of the oldest Greek cities built here during ancient civilizations. These, though now mostly in ruins are a fascinating place to visit.

Tripoli: An historic city, Tripoli was established around the 7th Century BC by the Phoenicians who were amongst the first group of people to settle in present day Libya. Presently, the city offers a number of historic sites and monuments; a testament to its long history. Other places to visit are; the National Museum, the Tripoli Medina (old town), Medina Museum and a good number of mosques.

Benghazi: The area around Benghazi has been settled for centuries and it is in the outskirts of the city that the ancient Greek city of Berenice was founded around 446 BCE. The ruins of this historic city are a key attraction for visitors to Benghazi. Another interesting place to visit from Benghazi is the ancient city of Cyrene.
