Livingstone:
Livingstone
is one of the key towns in Zambia and was named so in honor of
David Livingstone, a prominent explorer and missionary in the 19th
century.
The town has a population of about 100,000 people
and was once (between 1911 and 1935) the capital of the Northern
Rhodesia
Colony, before it was replaced by Lusaka.
Livingstone is linked to Lusaka and other parts of Zambia by
road and rail. Buses and minibuses offer a regular means of
transport from here.
The town is important to Zambia’s
developing tourism industry and from here one can visit the breathtaking
Victoria Falls, Mosi O Tunya National Park or the Lower Zambezi
National Park. In Livingstone there are a number of decent
hotels,
restaurants and a few bars.
