Sports in Madagascar:
Madagascar
has regularly sent teams to the Olympic Games since its first participation
in 1980. The Country participates in a variety of sports including
athletics, boxing, judo, swimming and tennis. Madagascar is yet
to win its first medal at the Olympics or International Athletic
Meets.
Soccer is the most popular team sport in the country and club
competitions are held at different levels. The National Team
known as “the Scorpions” participates regularly in
regional competitions, Africa Nations Cup and World Cup Qualifiers.
The Country is yet to make it either of these tournaments.
Rugby is also a fast growing sport and the Madagascan National
team has regularly proved to be a handful for other African Nations.
Other popular sports in the country are; hockey, volleyball and
basketball.
