Administration:
Madagascar is divided into the six provinces of; Antananarivo,
Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga, Toamasina, Toliara. The
City of Antananarivo is the Capital of Madagascar and the administrative
capital of Antananarivo Province.
People:
Madagascar has an estimated population of 18, 595,469. The main
ethnic groups in the country are; Malayo-Indonesian, Cotiers,
French, Indian, Creole and Comoran. About half of the country’s
population observes traditional religious beliefs. Christianity
and Islam are also widely practiced. French and Malagasy are
the official languages here.
Economy:
Agriculture which produces; coffee, vanilla, sugarcane, cloves,
cocoa, rice, cassava, beans, bananas and livestock products is
the main economic activity in Madagascar. Important industries
include; crude oil refining, tourism, cement, vehicle assembly,
breweries, sugar, food processing, paper, textiles and glassware.
