Mauritius:

Mauritius is a southern African Island state situated in the Indian Ocean, to the east of Madagascar. The Country is known for its natural beauty and favorable climatic conditions which make it a popular tourism destination. Mauritius is a former British Colony and attained its independence on the 12th of March 1968. The country has since developed and is regarded as one of the most prosperous and peaceful nations in Africa. The Mauritian economy is ranked amongst the top nations on the continent. The country has a healthy democratic environment and elections have been held regularly since independence.

Administration:

The main island of Mauritius is divided into nine districts; Black River, Flacq, Grand Port, Moka, Pamplemousses, Plaines Wilhems, Port Louis, Riviere du Rempart and Savanne; and three dependencies; Agalega Islands, Cargados Carajos Shoals and Rodrigues. The City of Port Louis is the administrative capital of Mauritius.

People: Mauritius has a population of about 1,240,827 people. A culturally diverse nation, the main ethnic groups here are; Creole, Sino-Mauritanian, Franco-Mauritanian and Indo-Mauritanian. Hindu, Christianity and Islam are the main religions in Mauritius. English though not very popular is the official language. Other languages widely spoken are Creole, Bhojpuri and French.
