Mayotte
is an island in the Comoros Archipelago that is an overseas collectivity
of France. The island is the only one to have voted against its
independence in 1974 and chose to remain linked to France. The
island is situated in the Mozambican channel; between the island
of Madagascar and Mozambique on the African mainland in southern
Africa.
Government: the country has no administrative divisions. Mayotte
is headed by the French President who appoints a local representative.
People: Mayotte has an estimated population of about 201,234
people. Mahorian which is a Swahili dialect and French (official
language) are the main languages spoken here. Islam is the main
religion though a small part of the population practices Christianity.

As an overseas French Territory, Mayotte uses the Euro which
was adopted by France as its official currency.
