Morocco
is a North African nation situated off the North Atlantic Ocean,
to the north of Western Sahara, northwest of Algeria. The country
was established around 788 following the conquest of Northern Africa
by the Arabs, leading to the rule of present day Morocco by Moorish
dynasties. The country was first occupied by Spain in 1860 and
later in 1912 became a French protectorate.
The country attained its independence following years of mainly
political pressure in 1956.
Presently, Morocco is a constitutional monarchy ruled by a King
(currently King Mohammed VI). A relatively stable nation, elections
are held for legislative seats and to choose a Prime Minister.
Administrative Divisions:
The country is divided into 15 administrative regions: Grand
Casablanca, Chaouia-Ouardigha, Doukkala-Abda, Fes-Boulemane,
Gharb-Chrarda-Beni Hssen, Guelmim-Es Smara, Laayoune-Boujdour-Sakia
El Hamra, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Meknes-Tafilalet, Oriental,
Rabat-Sale-Zemmour-Zaer, Souss-Massa-Draa, Tadla-Azilal, Tanger-Tetouan,
Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate.
Rabat is the country’s capital city.
Morocco has a population of 33, 241, 259 people. Arabic is the
national language though French is widely spoken and is the official
as well as business language.
