Moroni
is the Capital and largest city of the Comoros Islands. The City
has a population of approximately 45,000 people. Moroni is the
main commerce and trade centre for the Comoros. The City is situated
on the Grand Comore (Njazidja) Island.
Moroni is also an important transport hub home to the Prince
Said Ibrahim International Airport, the key airport of the Comoros.
The airport is the main hub for Air Comores which flies regularly
from here to a number of domestic and international destinations.
There is also an important port which is a terminal for water
transport between the island and the African mainland.
A feature attraction near the city on the Grand Comores Island
is the Mount Karthala Volcano, one of the largest active volcanoes
in the world which last erupted in 2003.
