Rabat
is the capital city of Morocco and is one of the largest cities
in the country home to an estimated 1.2 million people. The city
is situated to the northeast of Casablanca (off the Atlantic
Ocean) and is linked by road.
The city is home to the country’s
parliament and the seat of government as well as the location
for a number of foreign embassies and consulates.
The main industries in the city are; tourism, food processing
and textiles. Notable sites to visit in Rabat include; the Hassan
Tower and mosque ruins, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the Medina
of Rabat (town square), National Archaeological Museum, Rabat
Zoo, the Royal Palace of Rabat and Chellah (historic site). The
city also has a number of beaches, restaurants, pubs and shops.
