South Africa Cricket:
South
Africa together with Zimbabwe are the only cricket playing countries
in Africa awarded the coveted test-status. The country is one
of the major cricket playing nations in the world. The national
team
known as “the Proteas” has participated at every
Cricket World Cup since its first appearance in 1992.
Its best
effort to
date though was reaching the semi finals at the 1992 and 1999
tournaments. The Proteas also won the ICC Knockout tournament
in 1998 and the
gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
