Toamasina:

Toamasina is a Madagascan city located to the northeast of Antananarivo. The City is home to the largest port of Madagascar. Prominent industries here include; port activities, crude oil refining and food processing. Toamasina has a population of about 200,000 people.

The City is linked to Antananarivo by road and rail. Air Madagascar also flies regularly from the Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo to Toamasina.

The feature attraction in the town is its vibrant street markets situated near the city centre. Here you can bargain with locals and purchase interesting craft items and foodstuffs.

There are a number of hotels and restaurants here and the beaches are beautiful and pristine. Swimming however is not encouraged due to the high risk of shark attacks and polluted waters.
