Sports in Togo:
Football
is the most popular sport in Togo. The country’s national
team made its mark on the international stage by qualifying to
represent Africa at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Togo lost all
its group matches against South Korea, France and Switzerland.
The team known as “the sparrow hawks” has also participated
regularly at the Africa Nations cup and is yet to progress past
the first round of this competition.
Famous Players: Emanuel Adebayor is arguably the biggest football
export from Togo. He is currently playing for English Premier
League giants Arsenal as a key part of the teams attack.
