relatively smaller than its neighbors is a North African nation
situated off the Mediterranean between Algeria and Libya. The area
around present day Tunisia grew around the ancient city of Carthage.
The city was established at the turn of the century B.C and grew
to become the dominant economic and political centre in the lands
surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.
Tunisia became a French colony in 1881 and attained its independence
in 1956. The country is a relatively stable republic with a stable
elected government.
