Media in Uganda:

Uganda’s media was previously strongly controlled by the government which operated radio and the sole television station in the country.

Recent changes to media laws have resulted in the introduction of a number of independent media houses. Newspapers and broadcasts are usually in English though indigenous radio stations and papers do exist.

Newspapers:

The Monitor: available online, this is a privately owned English daily paper. The paper has a nationwide reach and is one of the most popular in the country. http://www.monitor.co.ug/

The New Vision: also available online, the New Vision is owned by the Ugandan Government and is an English paper. http://www.newvision.co.ug/

Other newspapers are; the Weekly Observer and Red Pepper.

Radio stations; Radio Uganda, KFM, Radio One, Capital Radio, Radio Simba , Central Broadcasting Service.

Television stations:

Uganda Television (UTV): is a government owned television station. Others are; Channel Television, NTV Lira and WBS.
