Victoria:
Victoria
is the capital of the Seychelles and the largest urban centre
on the archipelago. The city is situated on the Island of Mahe
and
is home to a large percentage of the country’s population.
The Island of Mahe is the largest on the Seychelles Archipelago.
The city was established as an administrative
centre for the British Colony here in the 19th century. Victoria
is also home
to one of
the key ports of the Seychelles which provides a transit avenue
for export goods leaving the country.
Tourism:
Victoria and the Island of Mahe are home to some of the leading
resorts and hotels in the Seychelles. Many of these are within
easy reach of the beautiful beaches on offer. Other interesting
places to visit are; the Seychelles National History Museum,
the Seychelles Natural History Museum and the local market. There
are also a number of good restaurants and bars here.
Transport:
Victoria is an important transport hub for the Seychelles. Besides
being home to a key port, the city is also the center for air
travel. The Seychelles International Airport situated in the
outskirts of the city is the key airport of the country. The
airport is also the main hub for national airline; Air Seychelles.
