Yamoussoukro:
Situated
at the centre of the country, Yamousoukro is the capital city
of the Ivory Coast. The city was founded in the late 19th century
as a village settlement under French administered territory.
Yamoussoukro
became the country’s capital in 1983 under direction of
then president Felix Houphouet-Boigny. The city presently has
a population
of about 200,000 residents.
The city is home to one of the country’s key international
airports in Cote d’Ivoire. Notable sites in the city include;
the Yamoussoukro Basilica (one of the largest Christian worship
buildings in the world).
