Yaounde:
Yaoundé is
the capital city of Cameroon and one of the largest cities in the
country. The city is second in terms of population to Douala and
is home to an estimated 1.4 million people. Yaoundé was
established at around 1888 by German merchants as a trade outpost.
The city then became the capital of the French colony and following
independence, became the country’s capital.
As well as being
home to the country’s government, the city serves as an
important economic hub, with a number of established manufacturing
and processing
industries here.
Interesting place to visit in the city include; the Musee d’Art
Cameroonais, Benedictine Monastery and the national museum
of Cameroon. The city also has a good number of restaurant, pubs
and a vibrant nightlife.
Yaoundé is served by the Nsimalen International airport.
The city is also linked to other parts of the country by road
and rail.
